Burgh-by-Sands is a quaint village close to both Carlisle and the Solway Firth. The village has a primary school, a pub and a post office and a prominent statue of Edward I who died in the village in 1307. Hadrian’s Wall runs through the village and the site was once that of a Roman fort, Aballava – this translates to ‘orchard’, and is where inspiration for the development name came from.
