What’s the deal with Stamp Duty now?
Since the government’s temporary Stamp Duty relief came to an end in April 2025, homebuyers are once again facing extra costs when purchasing a home. Here’s how it breaks down:
Stamp Duty from 1st April 2025
- First-time buyers pay:
- 0% on homes up to £300,000
- 5% on the portion from £300,001 to £500,000
- Home movers pay:
- 0% on homes up to £125,000
- 2% on the portion from £125,001 to £250,000
- 5% on the portion from £250,001 to £925,000
