Lauren & Sally from Genesis Homes at Rock Youth Project in Carlisle As part of this year’s Give a Day to the City initiative, Genesis Homes joined fellow volunteers to support The Rock Youth Project in Currock, helping create a brighter, more welcoming space where local young people can feel valued, supported and inspired from the moment they arrive.

The team spent the day sweeping, weeding, clearing and repainting the entrance to the youth centre, transforming the first impression of a place that plays an important role in the lives of local children and young people across Carlisle. The Rock Youth Project provides a safe, inclusive environment where young people can access activities, opportunities and guidance that help build confidence, develop life skills and foster a strong sense of belonging.

For us, building thriving communities is about more than the homes themselves. It’s about helping create places where people feel connected, supported and proud to belong. That’s why investing time in local organisations and community initiatives is just as important as creating quality homes.

Lauren Allison, Head of Communities & Engagement at Genesis Homes, said:

“At Genesis Homes, we believe a great place to live is shaped by so much more than the homes within it. It’s the people, organisations and community spaces that bring neighbourhoods to life. That’s why we’re committed to supporting local initiatives and building meaningful relationships wherever we work.

“The Rock Youth Project makes a real difference to young people and their families every day, so we’re incredibly proud to have played a small part in making the centre even more welcoming for everyone who walks through the gates.”

Sam McWhan, CEO of The Rock Youth Project, added:

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone from Genesis Homes who gave up their time to support us. The difference they’ve made to the entrance is fantastic and will help create an even warmer welcome for the young people and families who visit us every week.

“Give a Day to the City is such a brilliant initiative because it brings local businesses, charities and community organisations together for a common purpose. When everyone works side by side like this, you can achieve so much more, and the positive impact is felt right across the city. We’re delighted to have had Genesis Homes involved and really appreciate their support.”

Give a Day to the City brings together businesses, charities and volunteers from across Carlisle to complete practical projects that make a lasting impact on local communities. By working side by side, participants help strengthen the places where people live, work and spend time together.

As Genesis Homes continues to grow across Carlisle and wider Cumbria, supporting the communities where we build remains a key part of the business – helping create places where people don’t just live, but truly belong.
