Our gifts to homeowners to help get bees buzzing again

AS part of our commitment to be friendlier to the environment, we’ve come up with a way of creating a buzz at our developments – by providing homeowners with Beebombs.

Recent research carried out by conservation charities Buglife and Kent Wildlife Trust revealed that the number of flying insects has declined in the UK by 60 per cent over the past 20 years.

To do our bit in encouraging bees to thrive and populate in the county of Cumbria, we are providing homeowners with free gifts of Beebombs – balls made up of hundreds of seeds and wildflowers to scatter into soil in order to grow a small wild meadow.

While leading the way in sustainable housing in the UK through our pioneering EcoGen project which will see us construct 16 net-zero carbon emitting properties in Calthwaite, we are always looking at ways of minimising the impact our developments have on the environment.

Doing what we can to improve the environment and ecology is very important to us, and these are points we always consider at each of our developments.

We have long promoted the growing of wildflower meadows to our customers but we thought we would encourage this further by gifting them Beebombs to get the ball rolling.

Hearing the sad news of the decline of bee and insect numbers made us sit up and take action, and it would be wonderful to see people’s gardens alive with wildlife as we enter the summer months.

The Beebombs packages will be distributed to homeowners at four of our developments.

As well as the Beebombs, the packs will include an information guide about the bombs and information on Genesis’ ongoing commitment to nature and the planet.

Since being formed in 2017, we have introduced various energy efficient features to all our homes and all our properties are built to strong building standards for thermal efficiency and air tightness.
