‘We can’t solve today’s problems with yesterday’s solutions’

Posted on: February 17, 2022

THE cat is finally out the bag about our pioneering carbon net-zero emitting housing development in the village of Calthwaite – and we’ve been completely blown away by the positive response.

Countless hours have been spent researching and preparing plans to make the 16-home development as environmentally friendly as possible, and to receive the glowing feedback from a national audience has made all the hard work feel worthwhile.

With our EcoGen project, where all homes will be fully powered by renewable energy, we didn’t want our sustainable construction contribution to be just a token gesture – we are serious about significantly reducing the carbon emissions used by households in order to tackle the climate crisis.

It would have been easy to make just one of the homes eco-friendly as part of a tick box exercise in response to the Government’s goals to become carbon net-zero, but we are committed to doing our utmost to implement the most ecological practices we can when it comes to construction.

We want to rethink housing. We want to rethink housing by building true zero carbon, sustainable, innovative, high quality homes that are friendly to wildlife and the environment.

There is more carbon dioxide in our atmosphere than at any time in human history. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe. Sea levels are rising faster than ever before. Swathes of forests and sea ecosystems are being lost.

The science tells us we need to act urgently to confront climate change.

Our world has been transformed in the past 50 years but houses remain largely the same as they’ve always been.

EcoGen is different, however.

The EcoGen homes combines the existing design elegance, modern palettes and high specification of our homes constructed by Genesis Homes and Russell Armer Homes, with the added bonus of the latest in sustainable technology.

The outcome of combining the features is that we will radically reduce people’s carbon footprint and truly live for the future.

We do not intend to stop here, however. EcoGen is a live and ongoing project. The clue is in the name; We are committed to mitigating our effect on the environment and evolving with the needs of our world.

EcoGen is about getting ahead of the climate crisis. It’s about learning, changing, guiding and ultimately committing.

Changing the world is tough and challenging convention requires courage. We know it’s not going to be easy and that’s why we are working in a way that encourages evolution of our core house product, that provides the freedom to explore how we plan and layout our developments with wellbeing and biodiversity in mind, and to continue being curious and sharing what we learn along the way.

Why be creative? Why challenge the norm? Why EcoGen? Because the world has changed and it is no longer possible to solve today’s problems with yesterday’s solutions.

When it comes to climate change, there is no Plan B. If you are excited about accelerating the transition to zero-carbon, we would love to welcome you to join us at EcoGen.
