Homes England confirm support for Genesis Homes’ new Rheda development

Homes England have agreed funding for our new flagship development at Rheda.

The development will comprise of 55 high-quality homes, of which 19 will be bungalows. The scheme, to be known as ‘Beckstones’, will feature several of Genesis Homes’ house designs, with two, three, four and five-bedroomed homes and bungalows available, offering views of both the Lakeland Fells and across to the Isle of Man. It is set in a lovely parkland area with established trees at its centre. The first release of homes will be made in mid-November 2020.

The homes will be built to a high specification to address the need for aspirational and quality housing within the Copeland area.

HM Government is increasingly looking to small and medium housebuilders for help to deliver the target of 300,000 new homes per year required to alleviate the critical shortage of new homes in England. Several large schemes and initiatives are now in operation aimed at boosting housing supply, including the Land Assembly Fund and the Small Sites Fund.

Nicky Gordon, Managing Director of Genesis Homes said: “We are delighted to announce this support from Homes England which will contribute to our delivery of new homes in West Cumbria. It is great to see Homes England eager to work with small and medium-sized housebuilders. This is the second scheme where we have partnered with them and it is a pleasure to work with like-minded organisations who want to support good quality housing. Beckstones is an amazing scheme and one that we are proud to bring to the market. We will be launching in mid-November and if early interest is anything to go by it will not be long until this scheme emerges as a flourishing community. It is not only those living in the homes that benefit from schemes such as these. New housing developments secure and create jobs, support local services and boost the economy.”

James Thomas from Homes England said: “I’m pleased to announce Genesis Homes has been successful in its application for finance support from Homes England. Small and medium housebuilders continue to play a major role in addressing the shortage of housing across England and we look forward to seeing this development come to fruition.”

Genesis Homes is a Penrith-based house-builder with several sites in development across Cumbria including Brigham and Burgh by Sands and with many more in the pipeline, employing 24 staff at its head office in Penrith and over 50 local contractors. The company began construction on its first site in 2017 and has experienced an exceptionally high level of demand for its new homes from the very beginning, with an unprecedented increase in demand since the lifting of lockdown that is confirmed by the recent sell out of their Armathwaite, Wigton and Cumwhinton developments.

Homes England (formerly the Homes and Communities Agency) is a non-departmental public body that serves the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. It is responsible for increasing the supply of homes available in England, increasing the supply of land for construction of new homes, and helping to speed up the delivery of sites in development.
