A vibrant new neighbourhood is set to take shape in Wigton, as Genesis Homes submits plans for a thoughtfully designed community on Kirkland Road. Building on the success of its much-loved St Cuthbert’s development, the housebuilder aims to deliver a collection of beautiful homes designed to blend high-quality living with strong community values.
The proposals include 33 high-quality homes, featuring a mix of 2 to 4-bedroom properties, including seven bungalows, designed to meet a wide range of needs. In line with Genesis Homes’ commitment to creating inclusive communities, 20% of the homes will be designated as affordable housing.
The new neighbourhood has been designed with community spirit at its heart. Plans incorporate a variety of community-focused features such as communal benches, book-sharing facilities, natural play features for children, and retained footpaths to encourage neighbourly connections and outdoor activity. A sustainable drainage system (SUDS) will also be provided at the front of the development to support responsible water management and help protect the local environment.
Subject to planning, construction of this new development is anticipated to commence summer 2026 with the first homes available shortly after.
John Blue, Land Director at Genesis Homes, said: “We are proud to be continuing our investment in Wigton following the success of St Cuthbert’s, which was very warmly received by the local community. This new development on Kirkland Road has been carefully designed to provide a high-quality living environment that not only delivers a wide choice of homes but also creates spaces that bring people together. From book-sharing points to communal benches and natural play features, we want to help foster a real sense of community for residents of all ages.”
Genesis Homes is committed to designing developments that reflect the needs of local people while enhancing the wider area, and this new project forms part of its ongoing strategy to deliver high-quality, sustainable neighbourhoods across Cumbria and beyond.
