Telehandler Operator

Location: Carlisle & Kendal

Location: One position based in Kendal, two positions based in Carlisle.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Telehandler Operator to support operations on a busy new-build housing site. The successful candidate will safely operate a telescopic handler to move, lift and place building materials around the development while supporting trades and maintaining an organised site.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate the telehandler safely and efficiently across the development.

· Load, unload and distribute bricks, blocks, timber, roofing materials and other supplies.

· Deliver materials to plots, scaffolding loading bays and designated storage areas.

· Complete daily equipment checks and report defects immediately.

· Follow lift plans, site traffic routes and instructions from the Site Manager or Banksman.

· Check loads are secure, stable and within the machine’s lifting capacity.

· Work safely around pedestrians, contractors, occupied areas and moving vehicles.

· Maintain clear access routes and help keep material storage areas tidy.

· Follow all site health and safety rules, risk assessments and method statements.

· Assist with general site duties when the telehandler is not required.

· Report hazards, incidents, damage and near misses promptly.

· Secure the machine and keys correctly at the end of each shift.

Essential Requirements

· Valid CPCS or NPORS Telehandler Operator card.

· Relevant experience operating a telehandler on a construction or new-build housing site.

· Good knowledge of safe lifting practices and site traffic procedures.

· Ability to carry out and record daily machine inspections.

· Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.

· Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious approach.

· Appropriate personal protective equipment.

· Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Requirements

· Previous experience working on a large housing development.

· Experience lifting suspended loads, where appropriately trained and authorised.

· Banksman or Vehicle Marshal training.

· Knowledge of basic machine maintenance and defect reporting.

Working Conditions

This is an active construction-site role involving outdoor work in changing weather conditions. The position requires good awareness, concentration and the ability to work safely in a busy environment.
