Cumbria’s community spirit was recently out in full force as volunteers came together for Give A Day Kendal and we were delighted that Genesis Homes could be involved. Held during National Volunteers Week, the initiative involved a week of practical, hands‑on projects designed to make the town brighter, cleaner and more welcoming.
Organised by Jonny Gios of Churches Together in Cumbria and supported by Cumbria CVS, Kendal Town Council and Westmorland and Furness Council, the initiative brought more than 40 volunteers together to complete three major projects and contribute over 270 hours of community action.
Genesis Homes staff joined forces with other volunteers to refresh two of Kendal’s busiest yards – Berry’s Yard and Tanner’s Yard – making them more pleasant for residents, shoppers and visitors. The team also helped transform Netherfield Cricket Club through cleaning, tidying and painting, supported by a donation of paint from the business. To support with the future project at the Millennium Fields Pavilion, Genesis Homes also provided advisory support on the work needed.

As we build Nancy Meadows, a community of homes on Burneside Road, we want to really immerse ourselves into the community. Our vision is to have a lasting impact on the areas where we build, so it’s really important for us to physically put this into action. Getting involved in this initiative allowed us to contribute to spaces that matter to local people, and we’re proud to have played a part.”

“Together, we’ve shown what can be achieved when organisations and individuals work side by side for the good of the community. It can be easy to point the finger and assume that a challenge is someone else’s responsibility. However, the issues facing our communities will never be solved that way. Real change happens when people work together, share responsibility, and take action. I am incredibly hopeful that Give a Day can continue to make a lasting impact, not only in Kendal but across South Cumbria in the years ahead.”
