New build homes helping to save money – and the planet

OWNERS of new build properties save thousands of pounds in energy bills and reduce tonnes of carbon emissions each year – but don’t just take our word for it.

Earlier this month, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) published its new report ‘Watt a Save’ which showed that purchasers of new builds will save on average £2,000 in energy bills and reduce carbon emissions by over two tonnes per property each year.

By analysing data from the government on the energy efficiency of new build and existing homes, the report found that, collectively, new home owners are saving more than £500m in bills and reducing more than 500,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually,

Key among the findings were that a new build house uses approximately 100kWh per m2, which is less than half of what older homes use at an average of 258kWh per m2.

In a time when energy bills have rocketed, the data also shows that it costs an average of £1,500 per year to run your new build home, a saving of just over £2,000 with an average older property costing £3,570.

Furthermore, 84 per cent of new build homes were rated with an EPC (energy performance certificate) of B or above – less than four per cent of existing homes reached the same standard.

The report justifies our commitment to building energy efficient, new build homes from the first moment Genesis Homes was created.

All of our homes are built to exceptionally high standards for thermal efficiency and air tightness, and all come with 100 per cent energy efficient lighting, smart meters, dual flush toilets, double glazed windows and doors, efficient boilers and water saving systems to ensure the homes are as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our EcoGen pilot project goes even further as our first net zero carbon emitting housing development will save even more carbon emissions, with more than 850 tonnes reduced over a 10-year period compared to an older ‘grid and gas’ development of the same size.

Add all this to being £2,000 better off in the wallet and it shows that you’re on to a winner with your new build house.
